Did you know the Big Apple has gone Hawaiian? One of Hawaii’s most popular sports – outrigger canoe paddling – made it there recently for the Hawaiian Airlines Liberty Challenge. Crews from the Islands and around the world converged on New York for the event, making the most of the big city and the venue.

Alala - NatureRecently several young birds were transported from the Island of Hawai‘i to the Maui Bird Conservation Center. Bred in captivity, these critically endangered birds, called alala, were once abundant in forests throughout the Islands. Through careful stewardship, the hope is that they will once again become a common sight in the skies of Hawai‘i.
