Outrigger canoe paddling is wildly popular in Hawai‘i, and paddlers and fans alike count down the days to the annual running of the sport’s premier event: the Queen Liliuokalani Long-Distance Canoe Races.
These are world’s largest outrigger canoe races, drawing participants from around the Islands and the world to the beautiful Kona Coast of the Big Island. This year’s event was held over Labor Day weekend, and it was filled with keen competition and a distinctly Hawaiian spirit.
