Honolulu is probably not the first city you would associate with Gypsy jazz, but Hawai‘i is full of surprises – and one of them is a band called “Hot Club of Hulaville.” Their style may be much more 1930s Paris than typical 2010 Hawaii, yet the Islands have embraced the band wholeheartedly.
One of the band’s primary influences is legendary Gypsy guitar virtuoso Django Rinehardt, and their first studio album is an imagination of a side trip he might have taken in his travels – a trip to Latin America, Hollywood…and Polynesia.
