As the tagline of the film One Voice says, “This is no ordinary high school musical.”
In Hawai‘i, the annual Kamehameha Schools Song Contest is a major occasion. Nearly 2000 high school students take part in the televised competition, showing their mastery of Hawaiian songs.
One Voice follows a group of student song leaders over a one-year period as they prepare for the contest. You get a sense of what the contest represents for the resurgence of Hawaiian language and culture. You see what it means to those who compete. And you get an inside look at the lives of students at this unique school.
