The film One Voice, also profiled in this edition of Hawaiian Skies, is just one of the many stories of Hawai‘i to have been produced by the non-profit organization Pacific Islanders in Communications.






One of the first things many visitors to Hawai‘i notice is the colors. They seem somehow more vibrant, alive and vital here. The incredible colors of Hawai‘i are part of the Islands’ irresistible charm.
While it is true that Hawai‘i is highly dependent on imported food, it is possible to eat fresh and support home-grown Island agriculture at the same time. Farmers Markets are an important ingredient in this movement toward fresh, local produce.
As the tagline of the film One Voice says, “This is no ordinary high school musical.”
Every Memorial Day, thousands of people gather at Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu for the Lantern Floating Ceremony. It’s both spectacular in scale and moving in its aim, to remember the lives of those who have passed on.
It is no surprise that many artists are inspired by the natural beauty of
Hawai‘i. But what's unusual about sculptor Leland Miyano is that he finds
his works of art hidden inside the natural materials he is working with.
There is much more to dance in Hawai‘i than hula. The Islands have a vibrant, thriving dance performance scene encompassing everything from ballet, to hip-hop, to salsa, to ballroom, to jazz.
Outrigger canoe paddling is very big in Hawai‘i. With its deep historical roots in the Islands, it represents a way to integrate tradition into modern life. It’s also a fantastic workout.
The Olukai Ho‘olaule‘a combines the joy of getting out on the ocean with the pleasures of music, games and the Islands’ fabled aloha spirit.
