VoyagersThe Hawaiian Islands are the most isolated in the world. What could have inspired the early voyagers to attempt the dangerous journey here over thousands of miles of ocean? What would the trip have been like? These questions fired the artistic imaginations of two men, and resulted in the film “Voyagers.”

Herb Kawaiinui Kane created a book called “Voyage – The Discovery of Hawaii” in 1976. His powerful illustrations tell the story of an island people in what is now French Polynesia, and their daring migration to Hawai‘i. Filmmaker Paul Csige collaborated with Kane to bring the story to the screen, using hundreds of illustrations. In fact, every single image in the film was lovingly drawn or painted by Kane.

The visual technique, storytelling and historically accurate depictions make “Voyagers” a very special film for anyone interested in the story of Hawai‘i.
